Launch: Optimist International Academy in Hoofddorp

With great enthusiasm, we share an important development in international education within the Haarlemmermeer region;
From August 2026, Optimist International Academy (OIA) will open its doors.
OIA is a publicly funded international school for learners aged 4 to 18, founded through a unique collaboration between the already established Optimist International School and Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Tweetalig.
The establishment of OIA responds to the growing demand for international secondary education in Haarlemmermeer where, each year, dozens of international students look for suitable education close to home.
OIA will offer a continuous learning pathway from international primary to international secondary education (IGBO and IGVO), building on the combined expertise of both schools in international, bilingual, and inclusive education.
With a strong focus on curiosity and connection, Optimist International Academy encourages learners to explore the world, engage with others, and contribute to positive change.
In collaboration with Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Tweetalig and regional partners, OIA builds bridges between local and international education by strengthening the educational landscape of Haarlemmermeer. In collaboration with UniKidz, we will also offer a safe and welcoming after-school environment where children feel at home.
OIA is an initiative of the Dunamare onderwijs and Floreer onderwijs en opvang school boards, supported by the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer, which recognises the importance of affordable, internationally orientated education within the region.
The school aims for full International Baccalaureate (IB) accreditation for the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).
Location
Optimist International Academy Secondary will be based within the Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Tweetalig building on Baron de Coubertinlaan, in the Floriande district of Hoofddorp.
The OIA Primary and Secondary sites are located within close distance of one another, functioning together as one connected international learning environment, with a shared vision and a continuous learning pathway.
Admissions for the 2026–2027 school year are now open, with applications being processed from January onwards. Admissions for Primary for the current school year are processed immediately.
