Praat Nederlands Day in Amsterdam: 26 November 2026

Praat Nederlands Day on 26 November 2026 is an initiative that encourages internationals of all ages and walks of life to speak Dutch for a day, with a range of fun events such as workshops, mini-lessons and social meet-ups.

Speaking Dutch in daily life

Praat je Nederlands? – niet vaak genoeg!

It’s an all too familiar feeling for Dutch learners in the Netherlands: despite all their best efforts, practising Dutch in daily life is difficult, because everyone speaks English so well. That’s what Praat Nederlands Day is for.

This initiative encourages internationals of all ages and walks of life to speak Dutch for a day – and for Dutch locals to respond in Dutch. A range of events helps with breaking the ice and taking on the challenge.

Reasons to take part in Praat Nederlands Day

Making the leap from the relative safety of language classes to everyday conversation can be hard. The events of Praat Nederlands Day help with taking on the challenge. Internationals can practise their Dutch in a safe everyday environment and meet other learners while Dutch speakers can help others in their community to speak Dutch. Win-win! Or rather, iedereen wint.

Held across the country this year, Praat Nederlands Day is an initiative by Leiden International Centre.
