Spreek Nederlands Middag
If you are looking to improve your Dutch conversation skills in a relaxed and friendly environment, Spreek Nederlands Middag is just the event for you! This special afternoon is all about conversation, a short lecture, and engaging videos that bring the topic to life. It’s gezellig (we can’t translate this word), it’s good for your Dutch and it’s free!
On Sunday, September 28th, we’re welcoming anyone with at least A1-level Dutch. You’ll learn new things about Dutch language and culture, and—most importantly—you’ll get to speak Dutch at your own pace. The best way to learn is by doing!
You’ll watch one or more videos, listen to a brief lecture/explanation, and interact in small groups. The host will encourage and guide full-group discussions at several times during the event. The activities are designed to support easy, natural conversation.
After the presentation, you’ll discuss the theme in small groups and later as a whole group, with support from the host. It’s a great chance to speak, listen, and grow more confident in Dutch.
Theme
Every Spreek Nederlands Middag has its own theme to spark engaging and simple conversations in Dutch. Some of our past themes were:
- Dutch water management
- Dutch movies and the Oscars
- Dutch birds
- Johannes Vermeer
- Dutch hospitality
- The Dutch love for bicycles
- The Dutch monarchy
- The Dutch educational system
Whether you’re still building your skills or already feel comfortable with Dutch, you’re welcome to join. Not sure about your level? Don’t worry, you are more than welcome, even if you’re a little unsure.
